On Friday, a vehicle was left on its side in a narrow alleyway adjacent to Temple Beth Zion, a synagogue located on Beacon Street in Brookline, Massachusetts. The incident occurred while evening services were in session at the synagogue.
Susan Kahn, a witness, recounted the moment of impact: “We heard a huge crash. It was absolutely terrifying.” Another member of the congregation, Maya Krasik, reported hearing a loud crash and seeing something fleeting pass by the window.
The car, which had previously been parked in a lot behind the synagogue, descended over a ledge, coming to a rest on a stairwell between the building and a retaining wall. This startling sight was visible from the synagogue’s windows.
Anya Shire-Plumb shared that attendees were initially taken aback, fearing the worst: “It was a little scary. Especially for the Jewish community, at this time, it could mean anything.”
Several doctors from the congregation swiftly went outside to assist the two individuals in the car, providing medical support until the emergency medical teams arrived. The driver and the passenger required extrication by rescue workers.
The removal of the vehicle from the tight space took several hours. While witnesses indicated that the driver and passenger were alert when transported to the hospital, authorities have yet to release details regarding the cause of the accident or how the vehicle ended up in such a perilous position.
