In Waltham, Massachusetts, a community is in mourning following a tragic accident involving a Brandeis University shuttle bus which resulted in the death of a student and left over two dozen others injured. The crash took place on the evening of Saturday on South Street, approximately at 10:32 p.m., soon after the bus was returning from a hockey game held at Northeastern University.
Vanessa Mark, an undergraduate student, was declared deceased at the accident site. Twenty-six fellow students and the bus driver were taken to local medical facilities to address injuries sustained in the crash. Brandeis University President Ron Liebowitz shared the somber news through a statement, honoring Vanessa Mark as a valued part of the university community.
The bus, which was conveying the students at the time of the incident, sustained considerable damage at the front, evident from photos and videos taken at the scene. Early reports from officials suggest the vehicle may have collided with a tree, leading to the accident.
A witness in proximity to the crash site, Meghan Jacobs, recounted the sequence of events that prompted her to step outside, where she was met with the sight of the damaged vehicle and injured individuals alongside the road.
Investigations into the circumstances that led to the fatal accident are currently underway, with collaboration among the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Waltham Police Department, and Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police.
