ANDOVER, MA – In a tragic turn of events, a hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 62-year-old Methuen woman on Sunday evening. The incident took place in the 400 block of Lowell Street in Methuen, where the victim, Pamela O’Neil, was discovered by a passerby, unresponsive on the side of the road. Despite being rushed to the hospital, O’Neil succumbed to her injuries, leaving the community mourning her untimely passing.
The Methuen Police Department, aided by surveillance footage, identified 29-year-old Andover resident Martin Quinlan as the suspect in the fatal accident. The footage revealed that Quinlan was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle at a high speed at the time of collision. After hitting O’Neil, the accused momentarily stopped before fleeing the scene without providing aid or contacting authorities.
Appearing in court on Tuesday, Quinlan entered a plea of not guilty to charges of leaving the scene of personal injury and death as well as violating learner’s permit regulations. Despite his claims of not having seen O’Neil, the prosecution underscored Quinlan’s acknowledgment of being at the helm during the accident. The judge has since set Quinlan’s bail at $200,000, reflecting the gravity of the charges against him.
