Car accident in Boston

A tragic incident occurred in Taunton, Massachusetts, on Thursday afternoon when two bicyclists were struck by a vehicle, resulting in one fatality and another severely injured. The collision took place at approximately 2:25 p.m. on North Walker Street. Officials from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office identified the deceased as 76-year-old Donald MacManus of Seekonk, who succumbed to his injuries at Morton Hospital in Taunton.

The second victim, a 72-year-old man from Attleborough, sustained significant trauma to his lower extremities and received medical attention at Rhode Island Hospital. The motorist involved, a 62-year-old man from Mansfield, has been cited for motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.

District Attorney Thomas Quinn’s office announced that the individual, whose identity remains undisclosed pending criminal charges, has the right to a Clerk Magistrate hearing to determine probable cause for the charges. The driver showed no signs of intoxication and will be summoned to Taunton District Court on a later date.

While initial comments from Taunton Mayor Shaunna O’Connell suggested the driver may have had a medical episode, this possibility was not mentioned in the district attorney’s press release. Aerial footage of the scene revealed a Mercedes-Benz with a severely damaged windshield and two bicycles nearby.
