On the evening of Friday, a tragedy struck Second Street in Chelsea, Massachusetts, as a woman perished while instructing a friend in driving, local law enforcement reported. The fatal event occurred shortly after 7 p.m.

The victim, identified as 36-year-old Jean Baptiste of Chelsea, was providing driving lessons to a 44-year-old man behind the wheel of a Subaru Outback. During an attempted three-point turn, the vehicle suddenly reversed at an accelerated pace, mounted the curb and collided with a metal pole. The pole, bearing a “no parking” sign, struck Jean Baptiste, who was standing on the sidewalk at that moment.

Responding officers endeavored to provide immediate life-saving efforts upon arrival at the scene, but to no avail as the woman ultimately succumbed to the injuries she sustained. The male driver involved in the incident remained present at the location and is actively engaging with the ongoing investigation, authorities confirmed.

A local resident, Reginald Watkins, who observed the post-crash circumstances, expressed his shock and inability to comprehend the bizarre nature of the accident. “I don’t even know how that would happen,” stated Watkins.

The inquiry into the mishap is currently underway, involving both the Massachusetts State Police and the Chelsea Police Department. As of the latest updates, no formal charges have been filed relating to the incident.
