London Resident Flees After Striking Young Cyclist, Waterford Police Report

In Waterford, a hit-and-run incident that occurred Tuesday morning resulted in a swift arrest. Authorities have brought charges against a New London driver for hitting a young cyclist and fleeing the scene.
The incident took place at the intersection of Boston Post Road and Clark Lane at approximately 7:30 a.m. The youth, who was riding a bicycle at the time of the accident, sustained very minor injuries according to police reports. Despite the minimal harm, the adult driver chose to leave the site before authorities arrived.
Following a swift investigation that lasted less than a day, the Waterford Police Department apprehended Emanuel Velez Milan, 31, of New London. Milan faces multiple charges including evading the scene of a motor vehicle accident, operating without a license, driving with insufficient insurance, and misuse of registration plates.
Investigators utilized social network resources effectively, posting a photo of the evading vehicle on the department’s Facebook page. Tips provided by the online community played a crucial role in the identification of the suspect.
Waterford Police Lieutenant Patrick Flanagan acknowledged the community’s assistance in the successful identification and arrest of the offender. The rapid apprehension underscores the department’s dedication to addressing motor vehicle offenses and maintaining safety among the community’s younger residents.
